Also according to the UN, 11% of families around the planet receive funds sent by an emigrant.
The power of Money Transfers in Mexico
There are 57 million Latino immigrants living in the United States, of which 63% (36 million of people) are Mexican. They are 10.8% of the US population. This group sent money to Mexico equivalent to 51.594 million dollars. $4.76 billion in December alone.
This annual figure represents 4% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product. Pemex, the state oil company, contributes 6% of the Mexican GDP.
